Yes folks, I’m teaching cooking to my new friends at the Dr. George W. Davis Senior Center in the Bayview Hunters Point Neighborhood of San Francisco. Together we’ve prepared salads, appetizers, pizza, desserts, snacks, breakfast and sampled a few surprise treats. These active adults are no strangers to the kitchen, they are masters in the Fine Art of Black Cuisine, an annual cook-off that features the culinary zestations from the community. Our classes range from 12-25 participants and everyone is having a great time learning new recipes. This past week we whipped up a fresh batch of Artichoke Hummus as well as an Heirloom Tomato and Peach Caprese Salad. That Caprese Salad raised a few eyebrows, but tongues were wagging after the first bite. This is such a great venue to share food traditions and explore new flavors. The seniors are very adventurous and love trying new things. I’ve just potted up an herb garden on the sunny roof at this campus that will provide us with an array of fresh green herbs to add to our recipes.
The Bayview Hunters Point is such a vibrant neighborhood and BHPMSS is doing great work to keep seniors connected and contributing to this wonderful community. I’m honored to contribute to this wonderful organization.
